Microsoft is releasing bold full-screen prompts, nudging users to adopt Windows 11 soon.

As the end of support for Windows 10 is coming near, Microsoft is urging users to upgrade to Windows 11 soon or else buy a new PC. Microsoft has been releasing prompts since then, the latest one is “A new journey with Windows”, for users who are unable to upgrade to Windows 11 due to insufficient hardware requirements by their PCs.

It’s a full-screen prompt urging customers to switch to Windows 11 at the earliest as the Windows 10 end of life date is approaching. The prompt, most certainly, does not allow users to dismiss it permanently. Microsoft requests customers to get a basic learning about the new Windows 11 PC before starting to use it.

The tech giant has left its Windows 10 customers who are unable to update to Windows 11 from their existing PCs with two options- either buy the ESU (extended security updates) on Windows 10 or purchase a new PC that can support Windows 11. While the pricing of Extended Security Updates for businesses has been set as $61 per device in the first year, that will double each year, the pricing for individual users is yet to be disclosed.

Using full-screen prompts as a way of nudging customers to adopt Windows 11 is not something new though. This tactic has been used before also when the company encouraged Windows 7 customers to switch to Windows 10. Using this tactic, Microsoft has been responsibly informing users about the latest changes and what else do they need to do to keep using Windows uninterruptedly.

Windows 11 needs a tight hardware requirement to function, something that only 2018 or CPUs released after that can support, hence the slower Windows 11 adoption. Users, therefore, must update their hardware or else purchase the ESU, after the end-of-life date, which is in October 2025. After the expiration date, Windows 10 users will no longer receive any critical security update, which can be dangerous for their PCs falling prey to security threats.

As the end-of-life support will be starting from October 14, 2025, Microsoft could be releasing full-screen prompts as part of routine from time to time until then. Windows 10 customers, consequently, can expect consistent notifications over the period of the next 18 months. Although the exact pricing details are not declared by Microsoft for individual consumers, the company is surely promising schools and educational institutions a generous discount on the updates’ amount.
